OUR STORY
The Duke of Northumberland or “The Clock” as it is well known by city centre drinkers and its regulars, is situated on Clayton Street in the heart of a busy Newcastle City Centre.
The Duke can be traced as far back as the late 1700s. It is believed the building was a very grand townhouse, occupied by a very wealthy individual. In 1832, it got converted into a pub and has been serving the Newcastle community ever since. In its early days, The Duke had a grand clock at the focal point of the building: “I’ll meet you under the clock hinny”, which is where its nickname originated and is still known to most to this day.
After an extensive refurbishment in February 2018, The Duke is a modern and stylish pub with lots of regulars and is a firm favourite for home and away supporters going to the games at St James’ Park – you will be sure of a warm Geordie welcome.
We offer a selection of draught and bottled lagers, ciders and beers, as well as a huge selection of premium spirits, including an extensive offering of gin. All with great offers and prices available throughout the week.
For your entertainment we have our resident DJ bringing you discos and karaoke on selected days. We also have one of the best jukeboxes in the city (so we have heard).
For your viewing pleasure, we have eight full HD TVs around the venue, including two huge 65″ TVs and two TV Table booths. You can reserve our TV table booths for major sporting events, ideal for 6 or more people, including table service so you are guaranteed never to miss any of the action. We are a multi-screen venue with Sky Sports, BT Sports, At the Races and Racing UK – showing all major sporting events including PPV events and of course, all televised live NUFC games.
To be sure of a warm ‘Geordie welcome’ and a modern, fresh and warm atmosphere meet us under “The Clock” and pop into the Duke of Northumberland.
